About Us

Nadia Heffner is owner and manager of Double H Horse Farm.  She has been involved with horses for over 25 years, half of that was spent on a training farm. She competed in 4-H throughout her youth, at open shows and on the Quarter Horse circuit. Her show-ring experience includes Western and English pleasure and equitation as well as showmanship, barrel racing, pole bending and team penning.  In recent years, she has spent her time starting young horses under saddle-an area in which she specializes at Double H Horse Farm.
In January of 2008 Nadia took on the Midwest Mustang Challenge. She had 100 days to tame and break a wild mustang, then compete in Madison, Wisconsin. Out of 200 trainers only 50 were selected to compete in this competition. She and Westie had a great time and performed well. It took a lot of hard work and heart to accomplish all of the skills that Westie could perform by April. To see video of Nadia and Westie practicing at home before the competition, please scroll to the bottom of the page.  There are also additional pictures and blog entries on our News Room page of their journey.

Nadia took enormous amounts of care and time to be sure that Westie was prepared for every obstacle and always kept the horse's welfare in mind. Immense groundwork was laid before any challenge was attempted. Westie's intelligence and fitness shown through as she completed the in hand course, and horse course or ridden course.

In 2012 Nadia entered the Mustang Challenge again, this time with only 84 days to prepare her untouched mustang. Out of 31 trainers Nadia and her mustang Grace finished 4th in the competition.  She adopted Grace and her mustang has been added to the lesson program at Double H Horse Farm.
